As a woman, one is often conditioned to become her own enemy, habituated to belittling oneself to the extent of hesitating to acknowledge one's worth. Siri Gowri, a visual artist from Bangalore delves into the intricacies of her identity, examining the stark contrast between self-perception and society's gaze. She has manifested this through a series of self-portraits.

On March 8th, Bembala volunteers were at the Women’s Day celebrations of the Patel Group of Institutions, Bellandur. We were invited as guest speakers at the inauguration of their Grievance Redressal Cell (instituted for their students). With an interactive session on ‘Informed Consent’, our volunteers engaged young law and nursing students along with their faculty.

APSA INVITES BEMBALA TO ITS CELEBRATIONS FOR WOMENS' DAY 2023

Also as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations for this year, APSA hosted an event on March 18th, where Bembala volunteers, a representative from the Whitefield Police Station, SI Keerthi Laxmi, and an assistant professor of Gynecology from Vydehi Hospital, Dr. Samskriti, were all invited to speak to an audience of 250 women from the Whitefield neighborhood.   SI Keerthi Laxmi spoke about substance abuse and advised young mothers to keep a watch on their wards. The audience also got to hear about Bembala and its scope of work.

When it was Dr. Samskriti's turn, she explained to the women about the importance of using contraception and the safety issues surrounding it. She also talked about the need to take the Herpes vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, and explained the changes around menopause. When Bembala (Empathy and Support), Police (Protectors of Law and Order) and Doctors (Healers) came together on one platform to reach out to women from the local suburban area…. wonderful synergies happened!!
